The duality between the built and the imagined in the work of Diana Balmori (landscape), and Eyebeam resident Marina Zurkow (video art) will extend the conversation in the exhibition, Textual Landscapes at the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery, NYC. The presentation takes on several principles from Balmori's Landscape Manifesto (forthcoming Yale University Press, Spring 2010) in which she summarizes her views on the role of landscape today. With examples from their practices in design, video and digital art, the artists will address five of the Manifesto points. Balmori and Zurkow will discuss, juxtapose their work, and challenge each other. Michel Conan, international landscape historian and critic, will conclude the session by commenting on the context of their discussion.
