Chinese artist, dissident and political activist Ai WeiWei was released from prison in China last Wednesday, June 22, 2011, after two-and-a-half months of detention. This timely exhibition, featuring 227 photographs he took while living in NYC from 1983–1993, captures the history, culture and atmosphere of New York from his unique perspective.

meet the artist Liam Roberts

Liam Roberts’ fertile imagination transmutes images into abstract-like compositions of strik- ing energy and brushwork. He says that he is not a maker of pictures, but a maker of paintings, and that the viewer completes the work, not simply by looking but by the labour of seeing. Shakespeare, as usual, says it best: “Let every eye negotiate for itself . . .” Roberts’ mediums are acrylic, gouache, collage and ink. This show comprises recent and earlier works.
