DON’T CALL IT STREET ART! is curated by French pop artist Thibault Sandret
(www.glamtrashpop.com).
The exhibition brings together mixed-media artists who transpose street-art
practices on canvases, graphic designers whose visual codes derive from urban
productions and, last but not least, photographers who capture the ephemeral
beauty of this art form. All the featured artists share a desire to harvest the rich
energy of the street, to excavate its spirit and to highlight the inherent beauty of
decay.
Virginie Sommet, a French conceptual artist who has been active in the New
York art scene for more than ten years, hosts the show in her Studio/Gallery 173
on Canal Street..............

meet the artist Liam Roberts

Liam Roberts’ fertile imagination transmutes images into abstract-like compositions of strik- ing energy and brushwork. He says that he is not a maker of pictures, but a maker of paintings, and that the viewer completes the work, not simply by looking but by the labour of seeing. Shakespeare, as usual, says it best: “Let every eye negotiate for itself . . .” Roberts’ mediums are acrylic, gouache, collage and ink. This show comprises recent and earlier works.
