EU WOMEN US is an international thematic cross-section of contemporary artists and young photographers: our subject is women and our goal is photography. The project has been widely presented throughout Europe beginning in 2006 at festivals, galleries and museums in Lodz, Sevilla, Arles, Salzburg, and Paris and will now premier in New York City. EU WOMEN US is a unique new version of EU WOMEN, a touring group photography exhibition directed by French artist and curator Véronique Bourgoin. Philippe Gronon

French artist Philippe Gronon’s gelatin silver prints of wall safes, library card catalogues and elevator doors are taken with a studio camera and enlarged to scale. Interested in how everyday objects inform collective or individual memory, the artist creates life-sized images that are hyper-descriptive of reality and yet also conceptual.

meet the artist Liam Roberts

Liam Roberts’ fertile imagination transmutes images into abstract-like compositions of strik- ing energy and brushwork. He says that he is not a maker of pictures, but a maker of paintings, and that the viewer completes the work, not simply by looking but by the labour of seeing. Shakespeare, as usual, says it best: “Let every eye negotiate for itself . . .” Roberts’ mediums are acrylic, gouache, collage and ink. This show comprises recent and earlier works.
