Patricia A. Watson, Ph.D.
She has worked extensively on HIV/AIDS and conducted fieldwork for projects in Botswana, Benin, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda and South Africa. She is the editor of The Front Line in the War on HIV/AIDS in Botswana: Case Studies from the African Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Partnerships (ACHAP). Other publications include The Angelical Conjunction: The Preacher-Physicians of Colonial New England. Dr. Watson studied art until she was 18 before pursuing an academic career. She rediscovered her artistic passion ten years ago, and since then has actively pursued ceramics, ceramic sculpture, and alternative firing techniques. She has studied sculpture at William Paterson University, and alternative firing techniques at Adelphi University and Castle Hill. She is a founding board member of Icehouse Pottery, an artists’ cooperative in Riverdale, New Jersey. Her work is informed by her widespread travels in Africa and extensive background in anthropology, cave art, shamanic healing, totemism, and primitive cultures. She draws her artistic inspiration from the healing forces of nature and the fragile state of our planet. Each of her pieces is imbued with a reverence for the creatures of this planet in desperate need of our protection.
