Clover's Fine Art Gallery presents Abstract Constructions, works by Noel Copeland and Michael Milton, two veteran Jamaican-born artists. The Opening Reception will be held Friday, December 14th from 6-8 pm at Clover’s Fine Art Gallery, 338 Atlantic Ave, Brooklyn, NY. The show will run through January 27th 2013.
Come view the eclectic and surreal works of artists, Noel Copeland and Michael Milton, who take recycled and reclaimed materials and transform them into stunning, unique works of art. Copeland's vibrant and colorful works are from recycled aluminum while Milton's detailed and precise works are from reclaimed wood.
Noel Copeland is a Brooklyn-based Jamaican-born artist who uses recycled aluminum to create his artwork. Copeland's collages are brightly-colored enamel on aluminum wall mount relief sculptures. The cutouts are a sea of organic shapes and represent his perspective on the bustling world around us. His creations are inspired from a range of sources: industrial view of Manhattan, social commentary on tourists, effects of sugar cane on the development of Jamaica and natural disasters.
Noel Copeland was born in Jamaica, West Indies and studied at the Jamaica School of Art. In New York, he continued his education at Pratt Institute and School of Art and Design where he obtained his Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Sculpture. Copeland has exhibited his works in many New York, national and international galleries. He has received two awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts, two public commissions from the Metropolitan Transit Authority and NYC Department of Cultural Affairs for the Arts and a Japan travel grant. Copeland presently lives and teaches in NYC.
Michael Milton's oil on wood works is created from discarded shipping pallets. The artist constructs his works by carefully taking apart the slats from shipping pallets, then overlapping the pieces and leaving voids and openings to complement the dimensions that become a positive part of the whole. Milton then paints the unconventional wood with exquisite detail to produce a stunning reinterpretation of the salvaged material. Milton's timeless works are influenced by his quest to utilize things from his immediate surroundings and environment. Milton is also a sculptor and furniture maker and his sculptures have been installed in public parks.
Michael Milton received his Bachelors of Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts, NYC and Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Colorado, Boulder. His works have been shown in numerous important shows in California and NYC. Milton presently lives in the Catskills where he works in his big turquoise-colored dairy barn on Black River Road outside Bloomville. He lives there with his wife, Michelle, and their son, Michael.
