FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Les Christophs “ICONOSMS”
January 24- February 6, 2013
Opening Reception January 24, 6-8 PM
Dillon Gallery is pleased to announce the second solo exhibition of avant-garde artist Christophe Laudamiel, a world-renowned perfumer at DreamAir LLC’s studios, this time joined by Christoph Hornetz, his perfumery partner of 10 years, forming the team Les Christophs.
In this revolutionary presentation, the gallery will exhibit scent sculptures developed by the artists that are paired with other artistic disciplines. The event will feature the partition of the gallery space into eleven independent microcosms, each representing a specific olfactory and visual trip: Volatile Marilyn #5; Butterfly Air; Remembrance of Things Outrageous: Chelsea Hotel; Al-Germinal; 6-Some Memoir: Hemingway in 6-Major; Fuller’s Family: Fuller, Axel & Buck; Gone With the Wind; Muguet Patch 9; Lilac Mon Amour; Face Yourself; and Luxury Lilies and Narcissus.
Les Christophs, as scentists and scent sculptors, use olfaction in place of the traditional plastic approaches found in the art world. As pioneers of immaterial expression, they often challenge the socio-cultural status-quos that prevent what is probably the most complex, and certainly the least understood of the human senses from soaring to new heights. Their advocacy for a fully recognized and unleashed Perfumery- artistically, emotionally and academically- is brought under a new light in this groundbreaking experience. Les Christophs have invented new ways to solve technical and logistical problems, and have become the standard bearers for these innovative explorations.
Each piece was inspired by and created with two elements in mind: the “Osmo” element (“scent” in Ancient Greek), which is about demonstrating a study in pure fragrance artistry and is designed to transport each visitor on a unique emotional journey; and the “Icon” element (“picture” in Ancient Greek), denotes a more concrete approach to the abstract scent dimension. The title of the show, “Iconosm,” is the combination of the Greek words describing this osmo-visual exhibition.
This exhibition follows the recently acclaimed projects by Les Christophs such as Green Aria – A ScentOpera at Guggenheim Museums New York and Bilbao and Garden of Addiction at the International Perfumery Museum in Grasse, France, and 3 Air Sculpture® designs as “Curators’ Choice” at Art Miami 2012.
