 Nick Cave’s Flea Market Finds: On the eve of his Denver Art Museum solo show, Nick Cave discussed combing flea markets for kitschy objects to incorporate into his sculptures, saying that finding one object often dictates the shape of an entire piece. Cave collects thousands of items in his studio at a time — but don’t call him a hoarder. "In my studio, you would think that I'd be a hoarder, but I'm not," said Cave. "If you came into my studio today, it would be bare bones because we've used everything." [WSJ]

meet the artist Liam Roberts

Liam Roberts’ fertile imagination transmutes images into abstract-like compositions of strik- ing energy and brushwork. He says that he is not a maker of pictures, but a maker of paintings, and that the viewer completes the work, not simply by looking but by the labour of seeing. Shakespeare, as usual, says it best: “Let every eye negotiate for itself . . .” Roberts’ mediums are acrylic, gouache, collage and ink. This show comprises recent and earlier works.
