News from Stuart Yankell

Image
Message from Stuart Yankell In October and November of 2008, I worked on location in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I had the opportunity to paint live dancers in the Plaza Dorrego in the sunlight and to draw and photograph dozens of Milongas (Tango clubs) throughout the city by night. Having started over 50 original drawings and paintings as well as thousands of digital images, the trip has revealed a new understanding of the depth and richness of the Tango tradition. Many of the completed works can now be viewed on my site (click on the title) in the Buenos Aires Collection as well as the Available Works sections. Wishing you a joyous 2009 with much health and success! Stuart Yankell Yankell Fine Arts 105 Birch Avenue Bala Cynwyd,PA 19004

In one sculpture, pencil-thin crosshatches of gray steel cascade past the clotted appendages of what could be a mummified squid; across the gallery, an attenuated salmon-colored blob has been sloppily pressed up against an uneven grill slathered with drippy green paint. Bludgeoning old-school surrealism with ascetic minimalism, Long offers us intimations of flesh harried by geometry. (Tanya Bonakdar, 52...
