Plastic: Art in an Era of Material Innovation May 09, 2015 - July 12, 2015   In the mid-twentieth century plastic was viewed as a material of infinite possibility. Artists began incorporating plastic into their work as technological and commercial development of the material flourished. Whether encouraged by industry, responding to a society seduced by synthetics, or excited by the inherent qualities of these new materials, artist created myriad works that showcased plastic’s diverse, expressive, and complex qualities. Couples, families, men dressed in military uniforms, pretty young women in lipstick and barrettes: They peer out from the walls and up from the glass cases. Some of the faces are freckled, others weathered and lined. A few smile, but most are grave. All stare intently into the camera’s lens. Behind the camera was  Mike Disfarmer , a commercial photographer in the tourist town of Heber Springs, Ark. , who made postcard-size portraits of residents and visitors. “Becoming Disfarmer” is filled with the results of his efforts, but the show is about more than the power of his images. Through the vintage prints dating from 1925 to 1950, enlargements printed posthumously, audio interviews with people who knew him, newspaper clippings and other memorabilia, the exhibition examines Mr. Disfarmer’s curious life within...

MONOTHON, the monotype print marathon, is a unique opportunity for artists to print with a Master Printer – and support the Center for Contemporary Printmaking (CCP) during its annual fundraiser. Monothon printing sessions are open to anyone interested in creating monotype prints. Artists with all levels of printmaking experience – beginner to advanced – are encouraged to participate. The printing sessions are 5-hours in length and include paper, materials and a meal. A Master Printer will print your work while you create it, and consult with you on imagery at your request.
