A Century of the World Distilled at the Met
Museums

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is not headlining its luminous exhibition "Framing a Century: Master Photographers, 1840-1940." There was no press preview or publication for the show, and no banner for the exhibit graces the Met's façade. But the enchanting gathering of more than 150 prints — 10 to 12 iconic works by each of 13 key photographers — a whirlwind tour of the medium's first 100 years, is sure to be one of the Met's sleeper hits of the summer.

meet the artist Liam Roberts

Liam Roberts’ fertile imagination transmutes images into abstract-like compositions of strik- ing energy and brushwork. He says that he is not a maker of pictures, but a maker of paintings, and that the viewer completes the work, not simply by looking but by the labour of seeing. Shakespeare, as usual, says it best: “Let every eye negotiate for itself . . .” Roberts’ mediums are acrylic, gouache, collage and ink. This show comprises recent and earlier works.
