Warhol and Cars: American Icons

March 6 – June 19, 2011

The Montclair Art Museum presents the first exhibition to examine Andy Warhol's enduring fascination with automotive vehicles as products of American consumer society. The show features more than 40 drawings, prints, photographs, and related archival documents spanning Warhol's career from 1946 to 1986, from his early work as a commercial illustrator to the seminal but little-known silkscreen painting Twelve Cadillacs (1962) to paintings and prints from his important and poignant Car Crash series to his work based on Volkswagen advertisements from the 1970s and 1980s and his BMW Art Race Car Projects.
