Join us at the Cosmic Gala as we celebrate the brilliant art and science collections of our great museum –
a “cosmos” of cultural riches! The Newark Museum’s stellar collection of over 100,000 objects represents
American Art, decorative arts, the arts of Asia, Africa, Native America, ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome,
and the natural sciences – treasures that belong to our citizens and are the foundation of stellar education
programs.

American Art at the Newark Museum is a veritable
“Milky Way” of stars, one of the most vital collections in the country. Among these treasures is Joseph Stella’s
great five-panel series, The Voice of the City of New York Interpreted (1920–22), imagining the American city
as the “center” of the universe, the lights of Broadway shining in the night sky. Asian art has always been part
of the Newark Museum, from the founding Japanese collection to the worldfamous Tibetan Buddhist altar.
The everpopular Victorian Ballantine House anchors galleries of jewelry, New Jersey ceramics and contemporary
glass. African art – both historical and contemporary, spanning the entire continent – is among our nation’s
oldest and most important collections. The Newark Museum offers unique opportunities for “STEAM” (science,
technology, engineering, art and mathematics) education through the Victoria Hall of Science, the Dreyfuss
Planetarium, and the new MakerSpace, where if you think it, you can make it!

community.
